The Problem
The client’s existing WordPress site was built on a bloated theme with 30+ plugins. Page load times averaged 8 seconds. The mobile experience was essentially broken — navigation didn’t work properly, forms were too small to tap, and the layout collapsed on anything smaller than a tablet. They were losing potential clients before the site even finished loading.
They’d been told by their previous developer that “WordPress is just slow” and that the only solution was to move to a different platform entirely. That wasn’t true.
The Approach
We designed every page from scratch with mobile as the primary viewport, then scaled up to desktop — not the other way around. The WordPress build used a lightweight custom theme with only 4 essential plugins, eliminating the bloat that was causing the performance issues. Content was structured with custom post types and flexible fields so the client could manage everything without touching code.
Performance optimization was built into the development process, not added as an afterthought. Image optimization, lazy loading, proper caching, and clean code were standard from the first commit.
The Result
Page load time dropped from 8 seconds to 1.2 seconds. Lighthouse performance score hit 96. Mobile bounce rate dropped by 45% in the first month after launch. The client started receiving contact form submissions from mobile users for the first time — something that literally never happened on the old site.
The CMS is simple enough that the office manager handles all content updates without developer involvement.
